I am a Staff Machine Learning Engineer with Planet, applying deep learning to geospatial AI problems. Planet has a fleet of Low Earth Orbit cubesats that image the land mass of the Earth daily to monitor changes and pinpoint trends. At Planet I've done everything from detecting new roads and buildings appearing in protected areas of the Brazilian Amazon to helping figure out how to put machine learning GPUs into space to applying cutting edge advancements in AI to Earth Observation problems.

The weather and climate science AI revolution isn’t revolutionary
Machine learning has its limits—how is it being used?

AI GPUs probably live longer than three years
People who think current AI use is unsustainable often rely on the claim that inference GPUs only last “three years at the most” under load1. The idea here is that once the AI bubble money drains away, current infrastructure will rapidly become obsolete, and there won’t be enough money floating around to buy a whole slate of brand-new GPUs. Inference costs would thus rapidly become way too expensive for current AI products to make any financial sense.

Google Earth’s New AI Lets Anyone Fabricate Completely Bullshit Satellite Images
"Tonight I typed just one sentence into Google Earth and put refugees near the Mexican border. Then I planted a nuclear plant in Iran. Then I put a fatal crash on a street in Amsterdam."
