The Metric Media network runs more than 1,200 local news sites. Here are some of the non-profits funding them.

This is the first part of a two-part investigation. The second piece can be found here. As local news outlets across the US struggle to stay afloat, pop-up newsrooms are filling the void. Organizations with ties to political parties, special-interest groups, and lobbyists have emerged under the guise of news. One of the biggest such […]

Why You Shouldn’t Create a Newsletter (What to Do Instead)
Once upon a time, the online newsletter produced enormous profits for all kinds of businesses. Nowadays, it's just pure foolishness.

The Press Release Is Dead — Use This Instead – Mike Butcher
I’m QUITE TIRED of dealing with MILLIONS of tech entrepreneurs (these days there are a HELL of a lot of you) and (some) PR people who have ZERO clue how to pitch me/TechCrunch/the media. Their pitches are long-winded and rambling. They ask if they could ‘send some more information’. Listen, I have no idea if it’s interesting or not until you send it! Many just ask me out to lunch or coffee. (Thanks, but I prefer hanging out with my *actual friends*). Even worse, they haven’t read this post or seen my presentation on how to deal with tech media. [2021 update: This is a basic outline for super-early startups. If you want something for Post Series A / later stage startups go here].

However, what appeared to be grassroots news is part of a sprawling network that promotes political agendas and corporate interests, without disclosing those ties to the […]

How we decide what news is important, and why that process maybe flawed
Have you ever thought about the type of news that populates on your Facebook feed? Where does it come from and how is it specifically…

Good news we are adding @semble.so support to @infoenon.com! I've been lacking with connections and community outreach lately but that ends today. We will also be adding at least 3 others in the coming months to be natively surfaced and shown on our platform!
not to get too ahead of some other stuff i'm working on but i think every news org should be able to build experiences like this that they own via atproto. once permissioned data lands you can tie in business models really well. "substack on atproto" is too narrow, we can do better.

Was just scrolling our homepage revchron feed and caught the same vibe as when I was myself a hardcore Engadget reader in 2006ish. So happy with this, so much more to come
