Every platform I left, I left for the same pattern: enclosure by othering — systems that define what is shameful, create targets, and point an aggressive majority at them. Substack's AI-detection turn is the latest, and it is Dark Forestry in action. The escape is spatial: go where the platforms ar…
Against the dark forest
The complex of ideas I’m going to call the Dark Internet Forest emerges from mostly insidery tech thinking, but from multiple directions.

Environments Hub: A Community Hub To Scale RL To Open AGI
RL environments are the playgrounds where agents learn. Until now, they’ve been fragmented, closed, and hard to share. We are launching the Environments Hub to change that: an open, community-powered platform that gives environments a true home.Environments define the world, rules and feedback loop of state, action and reward. From games to coding tasks to dialogue, they’re the contexts where AI learns, without them, RL is just an algorithm with nothing to act on.

Building in the dark forest
We write from our new home in the Dark Forest. This week we fully committed to our new universe: we abandoned Slack and moved all operations into DFOS, our new tool, available more widely in the coming weeks. It feels good in here. Calm. Cozy. Just enough activity for things

Scale deep — The Systems Sanctuary
The world calls us to shift our mindsets and values from outdated ways of being and doing rooted in dominance, hierarchy and harmful systems, towards new ways rooted in relationship, collaboration and innovation.

Enter the Dark Forest
If you’ve managed to find your way here, you are likely familiar with the Dark Forest Theory of the Internet. You may not yet know it by name but you know it by vibe. Dark Forests are online gathering spaces that are non-indexed, non-optimized and hidden from public view. They are typically hosted in

Trespassing — A Brief
Early AI adoption in research used to be called front-running: strategic, forward-looking, a competitive advantage. That framing assumed the terrain was open — that moving early was simply moving smart.

Live Programming in Hostile Territory
Live programming research gravitates towards the creation of isolated environments whose success is measured by domination: achieving adoption by displacing rather than integrating with existing tools and practices. To counter this tendency, we advocate that live programming research broaden its purview from the creation of new environments to the augmenting of existing ones and, through a selection of prototypes, explore three adversarial strategies for introducing programmatic capabilities into existing environments which are unfriendly or antagonistic to modification. We discuss how these strategies might promote more pluralistic futures and avoid aggregation into siloed platforms.
