What is atproto?
What is atproto? atproto is two things: A protocol for creating open social networks An open social network atproto, the open social network Today the atproto network has 36+ million users and powers Bluesky and a handful of other apps. Almost all atproto data is public. Content like posts, likes, follows, and photos/videos are publicly accessible to any network participant in a permissionless way. As an example of how open the network is, hereās how easy it is to stream all public data on the network using a public atproto Relay like bsky.network:
Atproto spaces alpha updates
Hey folks, we just launched the atproto spaces alpha. Check out the blog post for more details! Over the following weeks, weāll be iterating on the specification and the implementation. In all likelihood, this will involve breaking changes to the PDS distribution, the Bluesky-hosted alpha PDS, and the alpha SDKs. Bluesky released early documentation for the "AT Protocol" (atproto) a few weeks ago, and I've been noodling around with it. Technically, it strikes an appealing balance between rigid cryptographically signed content-addressable storage on the one hand, and familiar web-friendly schemas and integrations on the other. But at an ecosystem level, there are already a bunch of existing open social media projects. Does atproto bring anything interesting to the table? How might it fit in compared to other similar protocols?

The Atproto Spaces Alpha is Live
atproto.com#atproto devs, I know data is public and accessible But we need more tools to help people download their data in *familiar and user-friendly* formats Data ownership is also about enabling people to use and move their data in whatever way they desire, even if they wish to take it outside the protocol

I'd argue that having an export tool to fetch the data from the PDSes into familiar data files would be very much appreciated by the general public, both webcomic authors and readers (especially converting the block content into something clean to import anywhere they might desire)
