I wanted to add book clubs to my GoodReads-like app (Collective), but ATProto doesn't have a standard way to handle shared group resources yet. So I'm building opensocial.community—a separate service that manages groups independently from any single app. This means the same book club could potentially work across multiple apps (imagine your book club having both a reading list in Collective AND a discussion forum in another app), and groups can migrate between providers if needed. It's probably over-engineered for my use case, but might help other ATProto developers building community features.

The Community Manager Pattern - Nick's Blog
This post looks more closely at Brittany Ellich's work on representing groups in ATProtocol. It builds on earlier conversations and explores how these ideas might work in practice.

The Arbiter - Group Management for Permissioned Spaces and Beyond - Zicklag's Leaflets
The permissioned data proposal has the concept of membership, but leaves it to the app to orchestrate it. The arbiter is our idea for a general-purpose, interoperable ATProto group membership service.
AT Intents proposal
I work on Skyreader and have recently been trying to improve the cross-app sharing experience (e.g. “send this article to semble/margin/etc”). The problem I’m running into is each app integration requires a bespoke implementation and the “save to” UX starts to get cluttered as the number of integrations increases. What would be nice is if the atproto ecosystem had a standard and generic way for cross-app sharing that was usage aware so you could filter by apps you actually used. So I’ve put tog...
Roomy and community organizing for system change
Roomy is a group messaging app that gives online communities tools for autonomous collaboration — designable spaces not just for chat, but for cultivating a web of shared understanding together. We show how cheap, user-controlled, interoperable data on ATProto can enable online communities to channel impassioned mobilizing into sustained organizing in the shadow of Big Tech's empire.

[Proposal] WG for group/community standards and infrastructure in ATProto
Interested in contributing — specifically to Phase 1 (shared ontology and community archetypes). I’m a cognitive linguist and university researcher. My work on the AT Protocol side includes Mezzanine, an information networking system using opaque cashtag connectors as a routing layer, and two Leaflet pieces on community infrastructure as a gradient — from permissionless tag-based commons to credentialed spaces. The reason I’m flagging my disciplinary background: Phase 1 is where this WG will e...
[Proposal] WG for group/community standards and infrastructure in ATProto
TLDR: I’m proposing a working group to develop shared interoperable standards for community infrastructure within ATProto. Many teams are independently making foundational design decisions about group/community membership, governance, and infrastructure. Without coordination, a de facto standard will calcify from momentum rather than deliberate evaluation of the ranges of community needs. I provide initial questions and principles to start discussion. Many people, apps and projects in developme...
Lexicon Embeds Overview
ATProto’s inside out structure provides an opportunity for open, permissionless building on top of any component in the network, including its extensible data schema definition system, Lexicons. One of the opportunities this presents is users sharing their data and records with multiple apps. Those apps may be direct substitutions (different clients for microblogging say), or apps that use that data in a variety of ways, such as Popfeed an app which aggregates posts about a variety of media ty...

Hey, I opened a proposal to create a working group for games on atproto! I'm want to make the work that I and others have already done more useful for applications across the ATmosphere. If you're interested in co-chairing, helping out, or just participating, let me know! #atproto #gamedev
[Proposal] WG for Games
discourse.atmosphere.communityThis is very much still in the alpha stage but I'm getting very close to a working solution of @opensocial.community ! This is an #ATProto app that will allow managing community resources across multiple app views 😁 Thanks @tompscanlan.bsky.social for helping out on it 😍
