What the atmosphere is, why your data should be yours, and what I'm building on AT Protocol.

ATmosphere Conf 2026: the internet built for people, not platforms
370 people in Vancouver, 500 online, all working on the same question: what does the internet look like when users own their data? Highlights from the AT Protocol community conference.

Your games. Your data. Your control. Fun experiences that are yours to keep!

I've been thinking about the beauty of open data and how the AT Protocol and wider Atmosphere ecosystem has been recapturing that open data environment that once defined the web. It really does feel special. vale.rocks/posts/atproto-ethos #atproto #ATProtocol

vale.rocksmultiple ways of understanding the atmosphere are good - you can store extra stuff in your bluesky account : good - an open file system for your social graph : good - an ocean of possibility created by freeing data from the clutches of big tech : good different approaches reach different people
Oh this is interesting. At first I thought it was yet another lexicon to wrap data on, but it's a way for anyone to use ATProto as a discovery mechanism for their non-PDS-hosted datasets. I hadn't thought of the ATmosphere and the relays as a way to surface arbitrary existing data until know.

🪩 Introducing matadisco.org! — a way to discover open datasets via #atproto that doesn't depend on any single institution staying online. 🕺🏼 We have more public data than ever (satellite imagery, climate models, genomic sequences), but finding it is still painfully hard.

protocolsforpublishers.comToday's example of #AtmosphericUX Designer of one app identifies a scenario where it'd be worth capturing data to appear properly in an otherwise unrelated app All that's required is a one-post explainer of the tiny lexicon record to write + they're sharing data directly Zero integration code!

@montoulieu.dev any documentation or advice on creating @beaconbits.app check-ins from an atmospheric ticket scan? 👀
These are scripts, tools, and services which allows one to import data into their ATmosphere account. #ATmosphereConf
