the universal app is technocratic & soulless without the contextual/communal/artistic apps where the actual socializing happens & all those apps are confusing & overwhelming without the universal app to bind them together idk curious your thoughts?

I think we underestimate the power of user interfaces (and thus apps) and how such power is concentrated in the hands of the few who are able to produce such interfaces.

As @ricardo.bsky.social might put it, the infrastructure behind the Bluesky app is becoming more like a product (as opposed to a project). A natural evolution would be to charge Atmosphere app developers who piggyback on it and would like to have standard commercial SLAs and technical support.

I see talk on here about the public being "platform brained", and a lot of that in my experience comes down to impatience. It's what you see when mainstream apps change layout. People have expectations about how apps are supposed to work, and learning something else is an imposed waste of effort.

We have blacksky and mu and witchsky, yet no alternative social-app native apps. @rude1.blacksky.team I recall you putting out a request for development contributions to put out an app

You can fork the codebase, maintain your own appview, run your own moderation, get as technically independent as you want but the one thing you can't escape is that app.bsky.* already has an established culture and set of social conventions around it that you have to play nice with.
