The Sifter - A Food History Research Tool
The Sifter is a public database, free to all users. It is a tool for finding and comparing historical and contemporary writing on food and food-related topics. It is overseen by an advisory board composed of members from The Oxford Symposium on Food and Cookery as well as other friends of food history. As with Wikipedia, the Sifter will be populated by its users. All entries will have an English translation, enabling users to search languages they cannot read. Soon, we will have over 100 languages represented. Registered users will be able to make corrections and add new information. Future releases will include a data visualization component. We also plan to include more resources linking to digitized photographs, artworks, television and film. With the aid of this tool, it is our hope that what has been invisible will come into focus.

@buildthis.bisks.net build an at proto enabled app that lets user count how many tacos they ate. Taco records should be aggregated through constellation.blue. Create a leaderboard-like UI, use the spaces pds to store data and let people create private leaderboards

Anyone know any #atproto or bsky services that can 1) aggregate posts with specific hashtags or from specific users, 2) that update every few seconds or at some specifiable interval, 3) that tiles nicely if one were to project it onto a wall? LMK ⬇️ Asking for a friend! It's me! I'm your friend! :D
#atdev friends, if you had an analytics database of all atproto records, what are some interesting things you'd like to know? - how many total posts? - how many chars have been typed across all posts? - how many live/dead PDSes out there? - how many "Jerry, no!"s? - something with the social graph?
Real time collective sensemaking in action on @semble.so - I wanted to track the W Social story so I created an open collection. 2 days later it has 27 cards, 7 followers and 7 contributors. And I have a much better handle on what’s going on! >

Someone recently announced a “restaurant listings/menus on atproto so they can own their own data”, and as someone who used to do engineering for OpenTable, let me tell you that project is not solving a problem that restaurants actually have. Owning your own data is an anti-value prop for many orgs.

hard pill to swallow for atproto developers/creators: 99% of potential users either do not care about, value, understand, or want to “own their own data” i see so many apps/projects lead with this “value prop”, but it’s not an important or meaningful consideration for most people

i don’t have time to make this, but i see a need for this. @pds.ls and @atproto.at are way too complicated for non-atp devs. i’d love to see a tool that shows collections in simplified form for normal people to navigate through and delete records on their own.... unthread.at/did:plc:eob75vcjtmbaef2tn4evc…
