Attached: 2 images I just refreshed the #WSocial website and it's showing a MAJOR redesign... with a label at the top stating "built on the open AT-protocol." This is the first time ever they acknowledge this β I know, as I've been visiting their website for MONTHS and also never heard about this in any interviews. So the claims in my exposΓ© stand (the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine would confirm this). Of note: they changed their URL from wsocial.eu to wsocial.news BTW thanks for all your feedback β€οΈ
W Social: Hello World!
Hello World! π This category is for discussing W Social, a new member on the AT-protocol federation. Launched in conjunction with the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 19, 2026, the project has sparked a lot of praise, interest, rumors and slander. In fact, our social media monitoring console registered 1 billion post views (across all the main social media) for posts mentioning #wsocial within the first week. As I write this, W Social is not yet open for business. There i...

I am definitely not touching W.
The nerds are building a new internet, and I could feel it in the room
The AT Protocol is a quiet attempt to rebuild social software the way email was built β open, portable, owned by no one. A meetup in Portland this week made the stakes feel real.

Two pieces of good news for W Social: 1) I may have found the problem that has bricked their network for the past week. 2) This may very well be the LAST article I ever write about them. It's exhausting and stressful and I want to retire from this beat and go back to promoting the Fediverse. Thank you all for your support and encouragement. And to my trusted source (a Fedi friend) who found and shared with me brilliant gems: THANK YOU! It's been a real honor collaborating with you β€οΈ

Scoop: #WSocial has been experiencing major technical problems for over a week: it is effectively a ghost town, filled with thousands of new accounts that cannot use the platform. Because my new article contains a possible solution to their problem, by the time you read this the issue may have been fixed. Or not. It has been going on for 7+ days, with complete radio silence by its developers and founders. Bluesky's AT Protocol: Pros and Cons for Developers | Hacker News
As Doctorow writes, putting the energy into building up your contact list all over again is not appealing at all and so remain wary of this. Similar reasons not to go all in on Mastodon which wasn't it or any of the other centralized Twitter clones that popped up a year or two ago which have now started to shut down etc.
It's release week at the house, and here's our next announcement: Mise en Mode, the emerging web standard! AT Protocol is a federated model for building social media apps like Bluesky. We want folks in the Atmosphere to adopt for supporting a visitor's own look over their own. standard.mode.place

wsocial.newsDidn't get to ask my question, so here they are @anna.wsocial.eu (I'm in the room :)) But firstly, welcome to the Atmosphere! It's always great to see another app join the OSW (open social web).
