What is atproto? atproto is two things: A protocol for creating open social networks An open social network atproto, the open social network Today the atproto network has 36+ million users and powers Bluesky and a handful of other apps. Almost all atproto data is public. Content like posts, likes, follows, and photos/videos are publicly accessible to any network participant in a permissionless way. I feel like you've (perhaps purposefully?) misinterpreted "instances" just to plug ATProto specifically at the expense of ActivityPub (and RSS, a bit). I think you lower yourself by doing this:

annot.at watches your RSS feed and publishes every new post to atproto using the standard.site lexicon, so readers across Leaflet, pckt.blog, Offprint, and any other ATmosphere reader can find it.

Thinking about atproto as an identity and data *substrate* of the web. RSS couldn't go all the way because it built within the boundaries of the same-origin paradigm, just like the closed platforms that ended up enclosing most of the web.

Yeah I'd say RSS was directionally right - it was an underpowered database replication protocol. It just needed to go all the way
Doing some investigation into news data on atproto via @sill.social's appview. The most popular news orgs that don't have an account tied to their domain are: ABC, BBC, CBC. Broadcasting companies hate atproto, you heard it here first.
