for atmosphere to be competitive, the cost of running a side project with a few users should be zero. i don’t know who needs to be convinced to make moves to solve this (cloudflare? vercel? etc) and what’s actually the common barrier (ingesting firehose?) but it needs to be super straightforward

yeah i *do* like it too but its actually quite expensive to run as i am doing it currently (not *that* expensive, its like 5-10 bucks/month) and no one is really using it, also i have way to many projects :P preferably bluesky should just add something pretty close to that themselves

The Atmosphere needs a front door - We Can Just Do Things
The Atmosphere needs a distinct brand identify, better tools for builders, a new UX for users, and a small empowered group willing to build it all.
A taxonomy of ATmosphere applications
Last week I spent an energizing, educational, occasionally infuriating week in Vancouver around the ATmosphereConf, a community event gathering developers, investors, data scientists, the odd...
Research Project for ATProto Ecosystem Brand and User Experience Needs
Hello atproto builders — I’m a long time lurker and first time forum poster. I met some of you at Atmosphere conf in March, but for the most part have been thinking and talking about how I might get involved and support what’s happening here, rather than diving in. It’s been deeply heartening over the last couple years to see this community emerge and all the work so many of you have put in to make Atmosphere conf and all the other great atproto meetups and conferences—and community contribution...
It’s a bit of an open secret that a group of us is working on forming an Atmosphere Community Co-op (which we’ll share more about publicly soon!) @roguewave.design created an open collection on @semble.so called Co-operatives. Please do share resources there.

atstore.fyiHow can developers better entice more people to join the Atmosphere? I think one potentially fruitful approach is to combine "you have one account you can use to log into lots of things" with "and those lots of things come pre-populated with all your friends." Here, Atmosphere shines.
Who wants to make money in the Atmosphere? 🙋♂️
Let's Talk Money
blog.joebasser.comone interesting future challenge with atproto to me is that you can deploy an atmosphere app and its kind of 0 maintenance if the underlying network doesnt change dramatically, your marginal costs become 0. which means users have no real reason to pay you unless you keep adding stuff?
the Atmosphere needs a LOT of care to be a functioning space for us all to have nice things. there are many people here with experience in tradbiz, both sides of grant and philanthropic funding there was even an expert in co-op structures at #atmosphereconf! ask for help! offer to help! dms open!

Putting my time where my #atmosphereconf ecosystem mouth is: if any early-stage ATProto team needs help honing their ops or strategy, ping me. If we are aligned, we can find a way to make it work.
@ricardo.bsky.social talked about this too, most atmospheric apps are going to be ground-up, tasteful businesses not startups. But atmospheric infrastructure has a path to receive startup-level investing because the speculative value can be huge.
AT Protocol Developers
A decentralized protocol upends everything we know about building for the internet, including how to build a business. @ricardo.bsky.social has some insights on the way forward. atproto.com/off-protocol/2026-10-02-the-o…
Signing into the Atmosphere is a bit of a lottery. This is a user problem. But it's also a builder problem. The Atmosphere needs a brand identify, a design system, tools for builders to drive broad dev and user adoption. wecanjustdothings.leaflet.pub/3mlv5oijn5s2q #ATmosphere 🌀 #ATproto 🪿
