Frankly atproto is a great technology that just has yet to really be successfully productized. A few orgs are putting real work into that productization now but only time will tell if it succeeds.

More organizations recognizing the value, more different communities outside the nuclear atproto dev community getting interested and BUILDING. Coalitions are growing. Big landmarks are being crossed like permissioned data and independent infrastructure. Folks are getting hired. We got this.

Does atproto make a company non acquirable? All you buy is an install base that can move, an app view maybe, and the team Without a moat what are you actually buying?

Some thoughts on why ATProto is so exciting from the perspective of what it could unlock software dev wise.

The pitch to community leaders and creators is still taking shape, but the interesting part is the fact that ATProto changes the relationships and power dynamics they and their community have around control of data, vendor lock in, and the flexibility to create new experiences.

Too many of y’all get the shape of atproto fundamentally incorrect, thinking it’s about “data ownership,” but it’s literally never been about that, and if you keep banging that drum, you’ll miss the point, just like we have every other time.

ATProto investment razor: if a team can easily explain their project to an investor coming in cold, they are not building something native. ATProto is weird. Any native life-form will look weird to an outsider. 🧵

I'm building on atproto because I think that a single social network has essentially no shot of dethroning the current tech monopolies. But an open ecosystem of interoperating apps is so infinitely more interesting than legacy social that it seems almost inevitable it will win
