Thanks to the awesome atproto community advice, docs.surf lives to see another day! Was able to create a closed loop on Cloudflare and cut my usage to practically nothing. Should be stable for months to come!

Hate to say it, but I might need to stop my indexer for docs.surf. It’s. Fun little project, but the costs are slowly creeping upwards as standard.site continues to grow. Tap listening to every single record just eats up way too much egress.

while i've been loudly proclaiming in the atproto devs discord meetings that you probably don't need an appview for your atproto side project, i'm now also working on my own "atproto backend in a bottle" that runs on cloudflare workers 😅 still super WIP, but happy for any early feedback
GitHub - flo-bit/contrail: atproto backend in a bottle
github.comthe critical thing that got me on board with atproto is relays incrementalize sync of the entire dataset, which eliminates polling when crawling the old web is currently being crushed under crawler load and I don't think it's going away, so I think atproto is the only way to save the open web
