It would be great to get some transparency in here. @janlindblad.bsky.social: 1. will users be able to use the w social app with any #atproto account? 2. will users be able to verify themselves (to be able to post) with any atproto account or do you require users to move their accounts to your pds?

W Social: Hello World!
It appears the w-social client has gone closed source. Any comment on this @janlindblad.bsky.social ? The article linked therein also poses another important question: Are all the components in W Social’s ATproto stack self-hosted in Europe? So, not just the PDS, but also the relay, AppView and moderation.

if you’re building on atproto, you’ve probably reached for “sign in with bluesky” as your auth story. it works! the OAuth flow is fine. but every time a user shows up without a bluesky account, you have to send them to bluesky first, watch them get confused by a totally different brand, and hope they come back. that’s a weird seam in your own product.

I'm building on atproto because I think that a single social network has essentially no shot of dethroning the current tech monopolies. But an open ecosystem of interoperating apps is so infinitely more interesting than legacy social that it seems almost inevitable it will win

@masnick.com I’m listening to your interview with @reckless.bsky.social. This third party doctrine is interesting. Do you think that atproto data would be considered properly owned by the account individual? Would be interesting implications if that public data fall under search and seizure rights.
ATProto devs did you know you can use selfhosted.social for users to create brand new accounts on the atmosphere in your applications? Both deckbelcher.com and blento.app uses our PDS. A user's journey into the atmosphere does not always have to be started from Bluesky. It can start from your app.
