One thing I've been toying with, instead of talking about "PDS" and cryptic nonsense like that is: Atmosphere Service Provider, like an ISP but for the social internet. Part of the motivation is that "Sign in with Atmosphere" only works if people have seen that before.

Spinning Up Your Own Corner of the ATmosphere - Mostly Protocols
How to set up your own PDS from scratch - server, domain, email, migration, and all the little details that actually matter when you're trying to run your own piece of the ATmosphere.
About the ATmosphere
Learn ATproto in plain language: what an internet handle is, what a PDS does, and how the ATmosphere powers portable identity across social apps.

pds.pollen.place
A calm little home for your atmosphere account. Hosted on pds.pollen.place, running on Tranquil PDS.
One thing I hope to see after this is more than just the reference implementation of it. An Atmosphere Account ecosystem where PDS providers compete on UX, features, and extensions can be a whole new brand of competition in the open social web, and everyone should lean into it.

As a community I think we've focus of "what is an atmosphere account?" too much and "what can I do with it?" too little To help with that I've built ATStore, our App Store: - Browse all the Atmosphere Apps - Explore each App's ecosystem - Leave reviews and feedback - Star your favorites

atstore.fyiin a community like ours, i think itâs tacky to say âstop using [Atmosphere app] and use [other Atmosphere app] insteadâ when i released @aturi.to i didnât tell people to stop using @pds.ls or @atproto.at with @anisota.net, you wonât find me saying âditch bluesky, mu, blacksky, etcâ
Signing into the Atmosphere is a bit of a lottery. This is a user problem. But it's also a builder problem. The Atmosphere needs a brand identify, a design system, tools for builders to drive broad dev and user adoption. wecanjustdothings.leaflet.pub/3mlv5oijn5s2q #ATmosphere đ #ATproto đȘż

If weâre gonna have login with Atmosphere, do we not need an Atmosphere logo? @renderg.host
My hope is that 'Atmospheric Login' will eventually generalize into what we all think of as a universal 'Web Login'.

i'm starting a diary on atmospheric login as a way to explore the topic in some depth. our login experience is how everyday folks will form their understanding of what the atmosphere even isâand the design space is super rich. the web may also have some tricks up its sleeve for us...

atstore.fyicalling all the "sign in with Atmosphere" freaks, check out @anisota.net's new login experience and tell me what you think â this isn't a flow or pattern i'd recommend for every app, but it is an example of an opinionated one for just this app! video attached, or try it for yourself: anisota.net
Guys... GUYS, listen. I am begging you all to think bigger! The Atmosphere may be a fun space to explore how familiar services and apps interactâbut it's still just social media. The protocol enables us to change behaviors and solve *systemic* problems It's the thing that gets us TO the thing.
