this is potentially a spicy take but i think i'm way more excited at the thought of a scrappy open web where apps are coming up with niche/specific lexicons vs a heavily standardised one where custom lexicons are discouraged in favour of maximal interop 🧐

Web Tiles as the base for Lexicon Embeds
Now that @robin.berjon.com has released an initial spec and implementation of Web Tiles, we can see how we can use or extend this as a base for Lexicon Embeds. Lexicon Embeds is my label for how to have native ATProto content embed in different apps, from display all the way to interactivity— eg an event post in bsky with an RSVP button. Getting this as a general capability - and getting security and display right - means embeds can function in Leaflet and Bsky and anywhere else, rather than o...

Scrappy – Make little apps for you and your friends | Hacker News
Decker[2] (which is also open-source) has answers to several of the things outlined on Scrappy’s roadmap, including facilities for representing and manipulating tabular data with its query language and grid widgets and the ability for users to abstract collections of parts into reusable "Contraptions".

Lexicon Garden is growing and moving! With community support, the service is migrating to new infrastructure in Europe, offering better hardware and more space for new features.

Another deep exploration into ATProto and implementing lexicons

Once you experience shared lexicons and the benefits of a single portable identity, it feels like a new open network. But the most important part is that it practically works as an extension of the web. We can add social features to our websites without even mentioning atproto. Frictionless adoption
P(aul) Frazee
The Atmosphere is a new open network. The features: - Your account works on all atmosphere apps - You can switch to a new provider with no fuss - Easy to make your own apps on it - Works great with personal websites And, Bluesky is an atmosphere app.
curious to hear other #atproto devs’ thoughts on fragmentation in the ecosystem? is there a thing as too much choice? many users, but all across various apps implementing their own lexicons?
Bluesky is scared to commit to making a universal app that works with any atproto lexicon. I am not. And am pretty committed to our social-app fork being able to work with more and more content types (short video, fintech, blogs, music, etc.) Acorn customers get this for their communities too.
Richard Ferro, MD MSc
Also, will any platforms using acorn have access to these integrations as well?
New thing! @jrcpl.us and I have been exploring home-made software. We made a prototype of a tool for making scrappy little apps for you and your friends. pontus.granstrom.me/scrappy/
Scrappy
pontus.granstrom.meI think for the open social web, especially the Atmosphere, separating creation and consumption apps that interop are a really good thing. No app has to be a jack of all trades. Blogging apps can focus on writing and distribution tools, reading apps can focus on aggregation and read later etc. 1/
This is partly why I think atproto needs a more convincing vision about being a post-app protocol. A future where atproto is a bunch of apps and each app governs their own lexicon diminishes a lot of its potential in the long-term.
Laurens
yeah i think i might actually, theres a very interesting story here that the main thing that matters is a focal point around which consensus over a lexicon can get formed
I'm building on atproto because I think that a single social network has essentially no shot of dethroning the current tech monopolies. But an open ecosystem of interoperating apps is so infinitely more interesting than legacy social that it seems almost inevitable it will win

Can everyone building on atproto please answer this question? 😇
