On atmospheric generatives… - Scraps!
How can we build moats on an open network? How can we make money when all the data's free? Here, I sketch some ideas for new generatives — contextualization, fluidity, aggregation, and relationality — for value creation in the atmosphere.

Two types of Atmosphere toolkit are needed if ATScience is to help scientists do science and better communicate it to other audiences: one serving the researchers and their teams, the other focused on aggregation and synthesis.
About the Atmosphere
I’m writing this from the beautiful UBC campus in Vancouver where ATmosphereConf 2026 is taking place. It’s a gathering of developers, researchers, and entrepreneurs who are passionate about keepin…

Our community has gathered around the concept of Atmosphere. There’s work to do in explaining, culture building, and the concrete task of rallying around a brand / logo, especially around login.

For anyone that has come to a meetup, event, or conference - it’s not faceless. As a community, our goal is to imbue the Atmosphere with feelings and alignment. Designing a logo and brand that grows to mean that is something we need to do together. No one company can carry our flag.
I'm thinking about what *generatives* are most applicable in the atmosphere — per Kevin Kelly, "better than free" qualities that can't be copied even on the internet: edge.org/conversation/kevin_kelly-bett… Things like contextualization, personalization, sensemaking…ideas? Need to write about this more!
