Who verifies the atproto developer community, and why can't it be the community itself?
I’m not sure aptroto and funding quite mix Traditional apps have easy moats (data/users), atproto apps don’t have moat unless it’s via features Vc funding pushes us towards are current world (few huge players that have “won”) A world where atproto has won is one of many small businesses

🚨 the ecosystem is delicate #atmosphereconf there's a LOT of enthusiasm + talent, but: - no magical investor monies - grant options are THIN - many first time founders - many don't want investment - few other options - scary macro env it's a collective challenge we can just pay for things?
one interesting future challenge with atproto to me is that you can deploy an atmosphere app and its kind of 0 maintenance if the underlying network doesnt change dramatically, your marginal costs become 0. which means users have no real reason to pay you unless you keep adding stuff?
the point of atproto is to make locked-open apps. apps which are constrained such that they cannot be e.g. bought by billionaires and ruined. yes, doing non-atproto things "enables app developers to do more". yes, non-atproto is "more intuitive" and "it sucks" when you hit atproto's limits.

yk the atproto space is kinda a great example of how corporate involvement can be a double edged sword. its gotten a lot bigger relative to how long its been around compared to a lot of other similar tech stuff. but god the corporate and hustle culture that exists in big parts of the community is 😭
