I was asked to install a mobile app to get access to the itinerary of a trip to Disneyland I'm taking with the kids. Fuck that noise: couldn't it have just been a Web page? An hour of reverse-engineering later, it is, and it's superior in virtually every way to the "app" that it replaces.
New project I built last week: a kind of "isblueskydownforeveryoneorjustme.com" dashboard, so I can stop wondering "is it my PDS or is it the AppView" when the app isn't loading - bookmark it for the next time something doesn't work but you're not sure what 🙂 status.feeds.blue

@zeens.app feed is looking particularly beautiful today 😍 The IOS app is still work-in-progress. working out some issues on my developer account with Apple's support. But honestly, at this point it feels like Apple support doesn't really help. They just copy-paste the same email again and again :(
Bluesky's AppView performance has not been so great recently, right? Long loading times with "Please check your internet connection" or "rate limit exceeded" Thinking it may be folks off of the Bluesky PDS's. Thought it was android oddities, but I get it on desktop and have heard from others
Some W users experienced problems today because W was relying on Bluesky’s AppView. When their AppView went down, parts of W went down with it. Our own AppView was already under development and it kept working. So we’ve now switched W over to our own AppView, currently serving verified users only.

Every time you view or like a post or take most actions on Bluesky or Blacksky your requests go through your Personal Data Server (PDS). It’s also the home of all your data. To date, we’ve used other people’s software to run Blacksky’s fleet of PDS. In the next week we’ll be migrating to our own.
App stores could be replaced by having apps published to a PDS, with safety provided using content moderation tooling, search indexed from the firehose, etc. thoufh. We strike aggregators everywhere that they stand.

Software industry is probably going to look a lot like the music industry or games industry. Lots of talent, lots of supply, bottleneck shifts to distribution. Aggregators win again?
