the problem with branding the atmosphere is that brands have a tendency to go stale. what we need is a way to say “this is atmospheric” without slapping an “intel inside” sticker on the case. i think the *@you.service.xyz handle placeholder format paired with typeahead is recognizable enough.

Have an Atmosphere identifier? Need their avatar? Want it resized, reformatted, and CDN cached? I wrote atp.pics for your convenience https://atp.pics
Our community has gathered around the concept of Atmosphere. There’s work to do in explaining, culture building, and the concrete task of rallying around a brand / logo, especially around login.

For anyone that has come to a meetup, event, or conference - it’s not faceless. As a community, our goal is to imbue the Atmosphere with feelings and alignment. Designing a logo and brand that grows to mean that is something we need to do together. No one company can carry our flag.
we haven't talked much about this publicly, but might as well rip the band aid: "atmosphere" is a generic word and there is no trademark held by anybody in the context of atproto, and would probably be hard to obtain or disputed in any domain. I think that is good, that word should be free
Are you a designer wanting a friendly #AtmosphericUX to onboard new users to your service? Check out what @keithlaugh.love crafted for @pollen.place: login = atmosphere account what's that = dropdown w/examples sign up = we'll make you one
Was thinking about posts made by @rude1.blacksky.team & @zeu.dev this weekend and been thinking about the Atmosphere needing a logo. While I don't pretend to speak for the entire community, wanted to throw my 2 cents that we should seriously consider adopting a "spherical" logo for the AtmoSPHERE.
in a community like ours, i think it’s tacky to say “stop using [Atmosphere app] and use [other Atmosphere app] instead” when i released @aturi.to i didn’t tell people to stop using @pds.ls or @atproto.at with @anisota.net, you won’t find me saying “ditch bluesky, mu, blacksky, etc”
the terminology for the atmosphere has to be able to elicit the response "oh that's bluesky i think?" before it can get any other type of response out of the general public. right now we don't have anything that does
What is a Browser?
www.youtube.comI think it’s time to elevate the Atmosphere branding as ‘your everything-account for the Internet’. Bluesky is not “the last social identity you’ll ever have to create”, your Atmosphere identity is. Bluesky = one of many Google apps Atmosphere = your Google account
bryan newbold
my initial though is that if we expand the PDS account manager and have most major account actions take place there, it could help. eg, similar to how youtube would probably direct you to google accounts for full account deletion, and then it is clear that impact goes beyond youtube
Pssssst! Are you making an atmosphere landing page and/or refactoring your sign up because of recent ✨discourse✨? I got what you need. *Opens trench coat to reveal convenient, flattened, normalized svg atmosphere logos in color and b&w* figma.com/community/file/16306851267590… tangled.org/cozylittle.house/atmologos/

We improved our signup / login flow — now approximately 3x less confusing and 1000% more *atmospheric*! See our initial stab at (very briefly) describing the Atmosphere…and showing a bunch of other cool apps that are part of it! Try at --> leaflet.pub
I thought we needed a custom ROM to see the benefits of an Atmosphere OS, but @astrra.space showed me how we could accomplish the same with stock Android

scott.leaflet.pubcan someone get a design/branding grant to give @atmosphere.community a brand that will work for universal login? the goose is a fantastic mascot, it's just not a logo (i.e. it doesn't work on a universal login button). the @ is cool, but not distinct enough. it's also too techie.
bubba says: try Solenoid!
this may run counter to your thinking, which is why I'll suggest it to challenge you: a webwide login should use the Bluesky icon and name, not "atmosphere". Facebook logins never changed to Meta- I think it will be hard to build trust with a "faceless" service as a universal account.
Signing into the Atmosphere is a bit of a lottery. This is a user problem. But it's also a builder problem. The Atmosphere needs a brand identify, a design system, tools for builders to drive broad dev and user adoption. wecanjustdothings.leaflet.pub/3mlv5oijn5s2q #ATmosphere 🌀 #ATproto 🪿

If we’re gonna have login with Atmosphere, do we not need an Atmosphere logo? @renderg.host
