Bluesky PDS | brad.quest
Bluesky is built on the open ATProto “atmosphere” network. The Personal Data Server is the network unit that serves as a repository for user data, identity, and media on the network.
Every time you view or like a post or take most actions on Bluesky or Blacksky your requests go through your Personal Data Server (PDS). It’s also the home of all your data. To date, we’ve used other people’s software to run Blacksky’s fleet of PDS. In the next week we’ll be migrating to our own.

The blacksky.community web application now uses our own API servers to load posts, timelines and profiles. When data is missing (accounts on the edges of the network, outside of our primary community, etc) we leverage @microcosm.blue

blacksky.communityHow can a lay person "own their data" if they have no idea what a PDS is and that they are granted authority over that server and it's data? The idea that they only need to know about "credible exit" if bluesky becomes hostile plays right into the computationally passive cycle we live in.
