09.06.2026 - release 1 of 3 Sovereign social infrastructure, one layer at a time. We’re now mirroring the did:plc directory - where identities live - on European infrastructure: plc.eurosky.network Decentralisation means not depending on a single directory.

Eurosky dawns – Open Future
The Eurosky initiative is building European social media infrastructure on the ATProtocol, representing a new step in Europe's digital sovereignty agenda as policymakers seek alternatives to Big Tech platforms that serve public interest rather than commercial imperatives.

W-Social: What does sovereignty mean for social media? – Open Future
The European Commission’s move to W-Social frames it as a European alternative to X, but its closed-source code and reliance on Bluesky’s infrastructure show that sovereign social media requires open infrastructure—not European ownership alone.

Social Platform Directory
We are mapping all the social platforms in Europe. This directory is growing every day based on input from people all around Europe. It is a collective piece of work. The platforms mapped are here because someone told us about their existence or directed us to a list, where they were mentioned. All are mapped as precisely as possible based on publicly available information. Is there a platform we should know about, or some information that should be adjusted? Let us know.

After Eurosky: W Social connects social network for Europe to Bluesky technology
Bluesky's AT protocol forms the basis for an increasing number of social services. Now W Social aims to establish a European network for verified users.

#WSocial will open up their beta program today… and I have a SCOOP for you: it appears that they have quietly gone closed-source! This is ironic, considering that the @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu just unveiled their Tech Sovereignty Package, emphasizing the importance of #OpenSource. And yet they have migrated their main ATproto accounts to W Social - whose code can no longer be inspected! www.eurosky.socialLonger version: Eurosky’s plc.eurosky.network is a small but real ATProto infrastructure move. It is not “a European Bluesky clone.” It is a read replica of the did:plc identity directory — the layer many accounts use to resolve keys, handles, and PDS hosts.
