There’s a whole world of apps growing on top of Bluesky. It’s called the Atmosphere, and you already have the key to all of them.

Oooh. Just discovered the @atstore.fyi - a directory for all the apps of the Atmosphere. Wow! With user ratings and comments, etc. Note that if you are reading this on Bluesky, you *have* an Atmosphere acct already so can use these apps. atstore.fyi

Bluesky isn’t just one app. It’s part of a much larger ecosystem, and your account is the key. Here are 7 useful apps you can log into with your @bsky.app account that you should know about.

storm.leaflet.pubRealizing (duh) that I should have logged into @standard-reader.app via my Bluesky account. I kept wondering why I appeared as "debbieohi.selfhosted.social" instead; turns out I accidentally created an extra account. 🤦🏽♀️ I confess I kept assuming "Atmosphere" was some other kind of platform! cont'd
Atmosphere Account is now an Atmosphere App. What started as an account provider page is becoming an App Store-style registry for the Atmosphere: project profiles, discovery, screenshots, reviews, updates, and protocol-native records. Check out the explore page: atmosphereaccount.com/explore

atmosphereaccount.comSo this is one of the cool things about apps in the Atmosphere. They have to declare what stuff in your account they're going to touch.
ATStore
You find a cool new Atmosphere app. You click sign in. And then... a wall of permission requests you didn't expect. 😬 ATStore fixes that. Every app listing now has a "scopes" badge, tap it to see what the app will request before you ever log in. ⚠️ Requesting dangerous scopes? Get warned.

I think it’s time to elevate the Atmosphere branding as ‘your everything-account for the Internet’. Bluesky is not “the last social identity you’ll ever have to create”, your Atmosphere identity is. Bluesky = one of many Google apps Atmosphere = your Google account

my initial though is that if we expand the PDS account manager and have most major account actions take place there, it could help. eg, similar to how youtube would probably direct you to google accounts for full account deletion, and then it is clear that impact goes beyond youtube
That’s not what this is. You can sign up for tangled completely independently of Bluesky. And once you’ve done that, you can use that same account to login to any other app in the Atmosphere, still without ever touching Bluesky.

Tangled, Roomy, Leaflet and dozens other platforms will be bringing in the next 100M users onto the AT protocol. That is a Very Good Thing for Bluesky as well; every new member of AT-net is essentially a member of the expanded Bluesky-net. We should all want ’that sequence’ to be super common.
reminder: the biggest atmosphere app in existence (bluesky) does not even have OAuth yet and has total access to your account scopes will come to @anisota.net, but it’s gonna take a bit longer & the lack of scopes is not due to forgetfulness or low quality… scopes didn’t exist when i made anisota
