Atmosphere is where you can login anywhere but keep all your shit in one spot and nobody owns it but you. Weβve seized the means of data sovereignty

& you lose if you say the word "protocol", "decentralized", "repo", or "pds" to illustrate: the cloud is "the thing where i keep my photos when i drop my phone in a lake". if you even mention a "server" while explaining the cloud then you lost the thread

What is the Atmosphere? Β· Leaflet Lab Notes
βThe Atmosphere is an ecosystem of apps that use Atmosphere accounts. An Atmosphere account exists outside of any single app. It consists of a username and a big folder of all the content and relationships a person has. It's public!Atmosphere apps use this folder to create social experiences like blogging, tweeting, and sharing. Because everything is public, Atmosphere apps can create uniquely seamless experiences between themselves!β

What the atmosphere is, why your data should be yours, and what I'm building on AT Protocol.

ATmosphere Conf 2026: the internet built for people, not platforms
370 people in Vancouver, 500 online, all working on the same question: what does the internet look like when users own their data? Highlights from the AT Protocol community conference.

Atmosphere Account
One account for all your apps. Yours to keep, wherever you go.

My hope is that 'Atmospheric Login' will eventually generalize into what we all think of as a universal 'Web Login'.

i'm starting a diary on atmospheric login as a way to explore the topic in some depth. our login experience is how everyday folks will form their understanding of what the atmosphere even isβand the design space is super rich. the web may also have some tricks up its sleeve for us...
Guys... GUYS, listen. I am begging you all to think bigger! The Atmosphere may be a fun space to explore how familiar services and apps interactβbut it's still just social media. The protocol enables us to change behaviors and solve *systemic* problems It's the thing that gets us TO the thing.

Signing into the Atmosphere is a bit of a lottery. This is a user problem. But it's also a builder problem. The Atmosphere needs a brand identify, a design system, tools for builders to drive broad dev and user adoption. wecanjustdothings.leaflet.pub/3mlv5oijn5s2q #ATmosphere π #ATproto πͺΏ

If weβre gonna have login with Atmosphere, do we not need an Atmosphere logo? @renderg.host
One thing I've been toying with, instead of talking about "PDS" and cryptic nonsense like that is: Atmosphere Service Provider, like an ISP but for the social internet. Part of the motivation is that "Sign in with Atmosphere" only works if people have seen that before.

The Atmosphere is a rethinking of the Internet, with social connections that you control, built in. It allows you to do more with others, while maintaining more control over your own data and experiences.
