In 2026, @bsky.app is focused on what’s next for open social: bringing together users for conversations around live events, creator and platform monetization, and private state, giving users truly private data while preserving ownership and portability at the protocol level.

FR#157 – Social Software Distribution
Open social protocols are expanding beyond social media into the infrastructure developers use to build, distribute, and discover software. Three recent launches show what that looks like in practice.

A list of AT Protocol-based, consumer-facing apps that are either built on top of Bluesky or its underlying protocol, allowing users to take back control over their social networking experiences and personal data.

www.igalia.comthis week's news is about how @tangled.org @npmx.dev and @alt.store are using open social networking protocols to build, distribute, and discover software, and how the most important part is not the code but the community building part connectedplaces.online/reports/fr157-social-software…

connectedplaces.onlineWhen @bsky.app pulls this kind of crap often, whilst also expecting the community to do the heavy-lifting in actually convincing people to try out the AT Protocol... it's really difficult to feel hopeful about the future of Bluesky and its constituents. I imagine many agree with this stance.
Rude1 Haunted Badness. ⁂
Bluesky’s statement deriding Threads users as “guinea pigs” is not representative of Blacksky Algorithms, the atproto ecosystem or the open social web more broadly. Communities form around communication networks. And communities should never be trolled for whatever tool helps them find each other.
Bluesky is scared to commit to making a universal app that works with any atproto lexicon. I am not. And am pretty committed to our social-app fork being able to work with more and more content types (short video, fintech, blogs, music, etc.) Acorn customers get this for their communities too.

Also, will any platforms using acorn have access to these integrations as well?
At @cascadiajs.com this year I gave a talk about #atproto and the Atmosphere: the open social ecosystem Bluesky and many other apps are built on, and what it means to actually own your data. I made a bunch of silly drawings for it, and I'm sharing them in this 🧵!
A new European microblogging app? Used to be the case that meant starting all over again. Not this time: I just logged in with the same @eurosky.social account I use for @bsky.app and it works. Starting to see the potential of decentralised socials.
Eurosky Social
Muve to the beat. Muve the conversation. Muve mountains. Today @eurosky.social announces mu.social, a new microblogging app to experiment with the future of social! 🪩💖
also it is completely bonkers that @bsky.app requires you to select a "Hosting Provider" on login and i have to remember whatever @eurosky.social's address is. guys, if you want this decentralization thing to happen, it should not suck so much to use! the Bluesky app should just read it from my DID
