App stores could be replaced by having apps published to a PDS, with safety provided using content moderation tooling, search indexed from the firehose, etc. thoufh. We strike aggregators everywhere that they stand.

While researching business models that could work on atproto there are some obvious ones that won’t work on a technical/architectural level. Like you can’t really monetize the data in the PDS because it’s all completely open (as long as there’s no permissioned data, but probably not even after that). That in itself already takes away a lot of room/incentive for enshittification (which is great), since when you do users can create or move to another app. But still, I kept encountering models/ta...
to reiterate on this, an AppView server should NOT be interposed between the user and the PDS: the client and PDS are in the user sphere of trust, but the service is adversarial. the PDS is the most important write sink and should be primary, since an app can't be trusted to not shut off PDS writes

Post-appitalism rejects the super-app as a meaningful alternative to todays app-based production of software. An app that becomes so big that it starts sucking in smaller apps perpetuates the same dynamics no matter how well integrated the smaller apps can be.
