Bluesky trust and safety is too important to be left to Bluesky
Bluesky is open about almost everything, except setting and enforcing their community guidelines. They have an opportunity to lead the Internet forward, but they need to start now.
"bluesky elder" is a meme from when some of the oldheads who signed up for bluesky in like january saw the influx of new users and tried to make a power play for manners and rules and what you can and can't do. Bee was in this and she called herself a "bluesky elder" which everyone promptly laughed
It’s a running joke based on a now thankfully forgotten poster who coined the term to describe those of us who’ve been here since the earlier invite era. To be clear, “bluesky elder” is deliberately self-deprecating and derogatory. The joke is it’s not a good thing (she thought it was tho)

One of the Atmosphere’s big bets is that the next 100m users will be won by making decentralised tech + data sovereignty more compelling. I’m less than convinced. We may be solving problems only builders care about, while overlooking problems that actually make ordinary people choose a network.
Anyone here prior to the creation of the media tab (August 23, 2023) is currently receiving a Bluesky Elder label. It's rate limited and there are a lot of records to process, so check back tomorrow. Don't blame us, blame @jcsalterego.bsky.social
i think, end of the day, the real problem with Bluesky is that most of its users are here *because* they want to be in a bubble. and they can tell themselves that it’s just about not being around Nazis it supporting Musk, and that’s part of it, but also there’s a palpable desire to be ensconced.
