Time to Migrate
Dear World: Now is a good time to get off social media that’s going downhill. Where by “downhill” I mean any combination of “less useful”, “less safe”, or “less fun”. This month marks the third anniversary of my Mastodon migration and I’m convinced that right now, in late 2025, it’s the best place to go. Come join me. Here’s why.

Notes on migrating a Bluesky account | Archived fry69
So You Want to Migrate... If you have an account on a Bluesky mushroom PDS (\<mushroom>.\*.bsky.network) and want to migrate to another PDS (e.g., your own), this can currently be a daunting task. As of this writing, there are a few web-based migration tools available, but even with those you might...

Mastodon's Eternal September
Figure 1: A ‘joke’ t-shirt made in 1994 commemorating Eternal September, taken from The Eternal September Wikipedia page The latest round of Twitter nonsense (changing the way “blocking” works) has caused another wave of people to abandon that site for pastures new. Nearly every one of them went to Bluesky instead of Mastodon. 1.2 Million people joined Bluesky in 48 hours. I wonder why that is? I bet there’s something about where people draw the line on Twitter’s behaviour and where they choose to go next. But I bet there’s something else to it too.
interesting to see mastodon take what seems like considerable inspiration from the atmosphere and bluesky i suspect we will see these two grow closer and closer together especially when spaces are officially implemented here and a space authority can function sort of like a mastodon server...
5.0: Laying the foundation
blog.joinmastodon.orghere is how i've been explaining PDS migration to the 115 users i've migrated: imagine your bluesky account as being an apartment. you're upset the rent is changing, so you move to a cheaper apartment on the other side of town. after you move, you have to update your address with the post office.

& you lose if you say the word "protocol", "decentralized", "repo", or "pds" to illustrate: the cloud is "the thing where i keep my photos when i drop my phone in a lake". if you even mention a "server" while explaining the cloud then you lost the thread
