My life, where each week I’ve been alive is a little box, inspired by this post by Tim Urban. When meaningful things happen (for both better and worse) I make a note of it so I can remember how much of life is influenced by these factors. If you’d like to create your own version of this, it’s basically a data file, a template, and a blog post mashed together on Jekyll blog hosted on Netlify.

Topics — Real Life
ABOUT TOPICS: Since we began Real Life in the summer of 2016, we’ve run many essays across a range of topics, with a particular focus on the personal and cultural implications of living with technology. Our aim is not to track the news cycle so much as the longstanding social issues that inform and transcend it. We wanted to make it easier to read and explore Real Life beyond our chronological archive, so we’ve created these Topics to gather in one place the work we’ve published on some key themes. More Topics will be added to this page over time.

An every day 'Every Day Calendar'
I internet-enabled my Every Day Calendar! Now it talks fluent goals.garden (♥︎ ATProto) and I can update it from anywhere. It's so simple, I bet you could do it too.
The Daily Planet #123: Deep Time Impermanence - The Daily Planet
Jacky's homepage on the DARPA-created, commerically-available Web. - Jacky Alciné
In your Web browser, of course. And not all of me; that'd be weird! You're using Firefox, right? You can catch up by email with 112 other folks, on a social network in the Meta, commonly known as Facebook, Threads, Blacksky in the Atmosphere or X, commonly known as Twitter as I continue to share and work on all things towards history, open digital technology, culture — and everything in between. I write essays of varying length; most recently I wrote "On the Notion of Shutting the Fuck up". I keep notes weekly and (near) daily links. Here's what I use on the regular.

Daily(ish) | Blogging is back?
In today's episode of Dailyish, I share how a family conversation about social media led me to rediscover my late father-in-law's travel blog and a link to my sister-in-law's old blog, reminding me...

go live a life you're actually interested in
pckt: a blog in your pocket
A distraction-free space to write and share your story. Just you, and your words.

Things I’ve been thinking lately
Notes I kept coming back to this year. On death, on bodies, on playing, on not chasing happiness, and on living close to the things you love.

On Writing #3
Periodically I like to gather various observations about writing, and share my perspective.

This is cool, like a mix of blog / digital garden / link log… strikes me that this kind of thing would be *really* good on atproto! Could be a single doc (like a @leaflet.pub looseleaf) & e.g. a new subpage each week, embed links or @semble.so collections, ppl can comment, re-share when updated…

I just published my weekly reflections: docs.google.com/document/d/1xRiCqpy3LMAgEsHdX… Safe as paintball. Infinite focus. Context rot. The betrayal of dumb tools becoming smart. Builders vs coders. Fossilized data. Reclaiming your data. Cooperation as transcendence. The candid aim test. Social alchemy.
I spent several hours today, away from the code, writing about Gifthood. It's likely the longest blog post I have ever written. Might make for some good weekend reading for atproto and decentralized web folks alike.
The Condition of Giving

I just published my weekly reflections: docs.google.com/document/d/1xRiCqpy3LMAgEsHdX… 10x more productive at 2x the stress. Lowering the Coasian The bring your own blowtorch phase. Claudeish. Two danger thresholds: cars vs motorcycles. The fruitcake model of generative UX. The leverage of the right IR.
