Boxer: a reconstructible computational medium | Communications of the ACM
Programming is most often viewed as a way for experts to get computers to perform complex tasks efficiently and reliably. Boxer presents an alternative image—programming as a way for nonexperts to control a reconstructible medium, much like written ...

ACM FAccT 2026 Doctoral Colloquium Call for Applications
The 2026 ACM Conference on Fairness, Accountability and Transparency (FAccT) invites applicants for the FAccT Doctoral Colloquium (DC).
Reflections on the Cooperative AI Conference | Platform Cooperativism Consortium
I am just returning from our conference on Cooperative AI in Istanbul. Part of what I love about conferences—what keeps me doing this, convening these global PCC events —is meeting people who are both…

Can we billionaire-proof inference? - Graze Newsletter
A small, federated compute co-op called co/core — and the wider experiment it's a part of.
Data exchange: getting to the core | ACM Transactions on Database Systems
Data exchange is the problem of taking data structured under a source schema and creating an instance of a target schema that reflects the source data as accurately as possible. Given a source instance, there may be many solutions to the data exchange ...

Institutions: abstract model theory for specification and programming | Journal of the ACM
There is a population explosion among the logical systems used in computing science. Examples include first-order logic, equational logic, Horn-clause logic, higher-order logic, infinitary logic, dynamic logic, intuitionistic logic, order-sorted logic, ...

Mythos, Muse, and the Opportunity Cost of Compute
Does Aggregation Theory survive in a world of constrained compute? Yes, insomuch as controlling demand will give power over supply.

Alpaca Conference
Alpaca conference will feature 35 speakers and workshop leaders exploring algorithmic patterns in the creative arts, showcasing pattern-based work across music, textiles, dance and more.

A relational model of data for large shared data banks | Communications of the ACM
Future users of large data banks must be protected from having to know how the data is organized in the machine (the internal representation). A prompting service which supplies such information is not a satisfactory solution. Activities of users at ...

I just finished a progress report / summary of the arbiter server that we've been working on at @roomy.space. The goal is to have an interoperable standard for group membership management on top of the ATProto permissioned space proposal. The last couple weeks were full of progress & discussion!
