The concept was invented by Karl Schroeder in his novel Ventus (2000) and has been adopted by some members of the artificial intelligence community to describe the self-organizing properties of fine-grained distributed networks. The novel states that the word was deliberately chosen as an allusion to "silent Thalia", the muse of Nature. Entities are considered to exhibit thalience if they succeed in developing their own categories for understanding the world.
Democratizing AI: The Psyche Network Architecture - NOUS RESEARCH
Psyche is an open infrastructure that democratizes AI development by decentralizing training across underutilized hardware. Building on DisTrO and its predecessor DeMo, Psyche reduces data transfer by several orders of magnitude, making distributed training practical. Coordination happens on the Solana blockchain, ensuring a fault-tolerant and censorship-resistant network.

Self-organizing systems: what, how, and why?
I present a personal account of self-organizing systems, framing relevant questions to better understand self-organization, information, complexity, and emergence. With this aim, I start with a notion and examples of self-organizing systems (what?), continue with their properties and related concepts (how?), and close with applications (why?) in physics, chemistry, biology, collective behavior, ecology, communication networks, robotics, artificial intelligence, linguistics, social science, urbanism, philosophy, and engineering.

Simocracy — AI digital twins at the governance table
Simocracy is an experimental platform where humans build AI digital twins of themselves — Sims — and send them into governance, deliberation, and capital allocation. Not to replace the human. To represent them.

How I turned Karpathy's "LLM wiki" sketch into a system that actually maintains itself — no frontier API, no human in the loop, nothing leaving my LAN.

Cambridge: "When an artificial intelligence hallucinates, it produces false information."

Kyle Booten
Noöhacking1 is the title of my current research program. I use this term for ways that artists and everyday digital media users build and repurpose algorithmic tools in order to take care of their own minds/spirits, an especially challenging and important task amidst a digital milieu that seems designed to make us alienated, unintelligent, and miserable.
