Sprites outgrew the clever filesystem we built for them. Their replacement is a plain disk: ext4, on a block device, on a bucket.
Sprites: full Linux computers for your agents
Sprites are full Linux computers designed for agents instead of people. As persistent or disposable as you want, with full environment checkpointing and restore.

RAFS Filesystem | dragonflyoss/nydus | DeepWiki
RAFS (Registry Acceleration File System) is a read-only, chunk-deduplicated, on-demand-loading filesystem designed for container image serving. The filesystem implementation is located in the `rafs/`

2TB SanDisk Extreme PRO with USB4 | Sandisk
The SanDisk Extreme PRO with USB4 portable SSD is engineered for on-the-move professionals and modern adventurers, with turbocharged read speeds up to 3800MB/s and capacities up to 4TB.

gefs
Recently, I have been working on a new file system called gefs. It isn't yet trustworthy, but it's ready for testing. The code is available here: https://shithub.us/ori/gefs/HEAD/f.html
TigerFS
A filesystem backed by PostgreSQL, and a filesystem interface to PostgreSQL. TigerFS mounts a database as a directory. Every file is a real row. Writes are transactions. Multiple agents and humans can read and write concurrently with full ACID guarantees, locally or across machines. Any tool that works with files works out of the box.
JuiceFS - Open Source Distributed POSIX File System for Cloud
JuiceFS is a cloud-based high-performance distributed file system, based on object storage and database to achieve data and metadata separation architecture, easily carrying tens of billions of file storage, to meet the random read performance requirements of big data, AI, autonomous driving, gene sequencing and other massive data.
Ephemeral-AI-Lab/layerfs
LayerFS gives every agent an isolated, disposable filesystem fork without copying the shared base. Useful states become durable, deduplicated checkpoints with workspace-scoped tool history—ready to branch, rewind, or reuse across parallel development, environment experiments, and MCTS-style rollouts.
Cross-Platform File System Operations Based on libuv
A cross-platform interface to file system operations, built on top of the libuv C library.

Sprites - Stateful sandboxes
Persistent, hardware-isolated execution environments for arbitrary code. Run AI agents, untrusted code, and more in secure sandbox environments with checkpoint & restore.
The Brick Protocol
When storage cost money per kilobyte, when disks were finite, when networks were slow—we needed containers. We needed to know where things were. The file system was a map of a small territory.
