First Principles thinking breaks down true understanding into building blocks we can reassemble into something that simplifies our problem.
Think First, AI Second
Three principles for keeping your cognitive edge while leveraging AI's capabilities

Chesterton’s Fence: A Lesson in Thinking
A core component of making great decisions is understanding previous decisions. If we don’t understand how we got “here,” we run the risk of making things much worse.

Logial Thinking Process (LTP) / Issue Tree App and Exploration - Issue Trees & Logical Thinking Process
Collaboration of Rufus Pollock with David Joseph to build tooling for structured thinking — specifically a Logical Thinking Process (LTP) / Issue Tree app. Both David and Rufus share a long-standing desire to improve public discourse and improve collaboration: aligning efforts to goals, making claims or hypotheses and their logical structure clearer (claim-trees), allowing debate to accumulate, mapping evidence clearly to specific sub-claims.

We need to talk about the social graph - Philip Sheldrake
Concepts are the fundamental building blocks of thinking, of designing. While there are plenty of things in the mix when it comes to contemplating system design, if the primary concepts remain unchallenged and unchanged from what came before, then the outcome will likely look very familiar.

Reversing Assumptions Technique — Think Jar Collective
Think Jar Collective contributor and creativity expert Michael Michalko shares a technique to challenge our own assumptions and in the process spark new thinking.

We Have Never Taught Critical Thinking (opinion)
AI just makes those failures evident.

Thinking Fast, Slow, Artificially: AI and Your Brain
AI can boost your decisions — or quietly undermine them. Wharton researchers introduce a new theory of cognition that every leader needs to understand.

Machine understanding
What do artificial intelligence (AI) systems “understand”? This question arises not only in assessing a system’s intelligence but also in evaluation practices to ensure the safe and responsible deployment of AI. Drawing on scholarship from philosophy and cognitive science, and informed by current practices in AI, we develop a framework for asking more precise questions and making more precise claims about machine understanding. We conceptualize understanding as a relation between a system (S) and a target of understanding (T), and we discuss how to specify the relation, the system, and the target, offering a landscape of options in each case. Our goal is not to defend a particular account of understanding, but to provide conceptual tools for those working to assess or advance machine understanding.

Early Tools for Thought, Mark Bernstein @ Tools For Thought Rocks
Whatever, we can just do things. First basic pass as a scratchpad for a future site. Images obviously need to be better, and I don't know why the second image goes past full bleed, but it's a starting to point for brainstorming. It's *something*. Let's just do it, why are we wasting time.
