Spaces are containers for permissioned data in atproto. Unlike regular public records that live in a user's repo, space records are gated by membership — only members can read or write data within a space.

A self-keyed space gives notifications a home you control: every app gets an append-only sink to write into, you pick the reader that turns them into pushes and emails, and allowing or revoking an app is an access control you already have.
Some W users experienced problems today because W was relying on Bluesky’s AppView. When their AppView went down, parts of W went down with it. Our own AppView was already under development and it kept working. So we’ve now switched W over to our own AppView, currently serving verified users only.
Permissioned spaces in HappyView didn't get much attention after the initial release because I've been focusing on service proxying, but I wanted to make sure to get caught up with the changes in @dholms.at github.com/bluesky-social/proposals/pull…. Permissioned Spaces in HappyView should be fully spec-aligned (for now).
