The high level EU leadership has endorsed W Social publicly. It is also replacing Bluesky as provider in the ATProto space. The choice came without any transparency. LeafPlaza is immediately and directly affected by this decision.

#WSocial will open up their beta program today⦠and I have a SCOOP for you: it appears that they have quietly gone closed-source! This is ironic, considering that the @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu just unveiled their Tech Sovereignty Package, emphasizing the importance of #OpenSource. And yet they have migrated their main ATproto accounts to W Social - whose code can no longer be inspected! W Social: Hello World!
It appears the w-social client has gone closed source. Any comment on this @janlindblad.bsky.social ? The article linked therein also poses another important question: Are all the components in W Socialβs ATproto stack self-hosted in Europe? So, not just the PDS, but also the relay, AppView and moderation.

Attached: 2 images Dear Fedi friends, Apologies for another toot about #WSocial but I am genuinely shaking right now. The @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu and its president Ursula von der Leyen have recently migrated their ATproto (Bluesky) accounts to W Social. I cannot fathom why they would pick a private enterprise whose leaders didn't even have ATproto accounts 3 months ago... and who are so open to having their users' data mined to train European AI models. My articles on them: π : https://blog.elenarossini.com/tag/w-social/ Wow. Just wow.
Blue Sky Thinking, European Infrastructure: Internet Archive Europe Has Moved to Eurosky - Internet Archive Europe
We've moved our Bluesky presence. Our account looks the same. Our data now lives somewhere different, on European infrastructure, under European law. Here's why we made that choice. What changed and what didn't When you use Bluesky, your posts, followers, and interactions live on a server. By default, that server belongs to Bluesky. Moving to

The promise of ATproto is social media without corporate overlords | The Web Dev Podcast Series 1
Developers building apps on ATproto, the technology behind social media apps like Bluesky and Leaflet, are promising us a future where we own our content and arenβt at the whims of a tiny handful of companies. Software engineer Zeu Capua talks to host Jason Lengstorf about the promise of social media where we can actually own our own data.
Fact check: Is the EU launching a social media platform called 'W'?
Viral posts claiming the EU is launching its own social media platform to counter X, in the wake of various scandals, are misleading.

@leafplaza.eu just presented an official complain. Also, setup a whole chain of official follow ups on this complain. We know our rights, no other European ATP project has been giving the advantage W Social received and that goes against Commission Decision (EU) 2024/3083 - Art. 4.

European Commission @ec.europa.eu removed the Bluesky logo from its social links and replaced it with the dubious closed fork of Bluesky called βWβ which has privacy issues π¬

They removed it quickly π³ Hurry up, letβs have a common logo for all the microblogging apps in the Atmosphere!
@leafplaza.eu got an answer. The @ec.europa.eu says our claim about the promotion for @wsocial.eu by several EU leaders is out of scope and asks us to redirect it to the DG CNECT. We will do that, but also we disagree and are escalatinh this matter to the EU Ombudsman.

Bluesky is scared to commit to making a universal app that works with any atproto lexicon. I am not. And am pretty committed to our social-app fork being able to work with more and more content types (short video, fintech, blogs, music, etc.) Acorn customers get this for their communities too.
Richard Ferro, MD MSc
Also, will any platforms using acorn have access to these integrations as well?
