Multiple teardowns and Apple’s own repair documentation suggest the new $599 MacBook Neo is unusually easy to service for a modern Apple laptop. Inside, the layout is simplified and comes apart quickly with standard Torx screws. Reviewers point to modular, swappable parts—USB‑C ports, speakers, and the headphone jack—plus a battery secured with screws instead of the strong adhesives and tapes that have complicated many prior Mac repairs. One standout change: the keyboard is replaceable as its own part, rather than forcing a swap of the entire “top case” assembly. That shift could cut both downtime and parts costs for common failures. Several outlets frame the Neo as Apple leaning further into Self Service Repair—and responding to broader right‑to‑repair pressure—which could be welcome for schools, businesses, and anyone trying to keep a budget laptop running longer instead of replacing it.
Apple Was Caught Off Guard by MacBook Neo's 'Off the Charts' Demand
Apple's most affordable MacBook ever appears to be a resounding hit with customers, based on comments shared by CEO Tim Cook this week. On an earnings call on Thursday, Cook said that customer response to the MacBook Neo has been "off the charts" since the laptop was unveiled in March. "We could not be happier with how things are going at the moment," he said.

Desktop Neo – rethinking the desktop interface for productivity.
The desktop computer hasn’t changed much in the last 30 years. It’s still built on windows, folders and mouse input. But we have changed. We now use smartphones and tablets most of the time, since they are much easier to use.The traditional desktop computer is struggling to adapt the simple interfaces of mobile devices while also keeping its focus on productivity. With people switching to mobile devices for mundane tasks, we have the opportunity to rethink the desktop computer with a focus on getting professional work done.

Going to double down on the MacBook mission with Omarchy. We almost have perfect coverage for the vintage Intel era going from 2009-2020. There's a straight shot to get the M1 and M2 machines going too, even if it's a lot more work. But we'll do the work. We'll fix everything.— DHH (@dhh) August 22, 2026
