a mini proposal for a shared bookmark lexicon
In Which A Book Lexicon is Born
Hi everyone, We recently held a sync to discuss creating a shared book lexicon for the Atmosphere Protocol. I’ve shared the full recording (thanks Ronen!) and notes from the meeting here: Fathom with some early notes here: https://app.notion.com/p/Book-Lexicon-Session-1-211b2b43aabb8007b098d063972ca58c (also do we have a ATProto version of Notion yet?) The book logging social scene is highly fragmented. Dozens of Goodreads alternatives are competing but not interoperating, leading to a lack of...
Thoughts on Bookmarking the Web - Henrique Dias
Yesterday I shared some atmospheric thoughts. One of the ideas was seeing which services do I use now that could be replaced. One of those is bookmarking. There’s two main contenders: Margin and Semble.

Bookmarking on ATProto
While building a bookmarking service on ATProto, the hardest question isn’t how to store a bookmark. It was defining what a bookmark actually is.
Social bookmarking
Social bookmarking is an online service which allows users to add, annotate, edit, and share bookmarks of web documents.[1][2] Many online bookmark management services have launched since 1996; Delicious, founded in 2003, popularized the terms "social bookmarking" and "tagging". Tagging is a significant feature of social bookmarking systems, allowing users to organize their bookmarks and develop shared vocabularies known as folksonomies.
New post on the @cosmik.network blog: who ever heard of bookmarks that can help *shorten* your reading list? On how bookmarks, combined with social curation networks like @semble.so, can be much more than bookmarks - they can be sensors! blog.cosmik.network/sensors-not-bookmarks

thx for the write up @donohoe.dev ! this is mainly why I've been hesitant to work towards a standardized bookmark schema, what a "bookmark" is depends a lot on the context of the user and the app that supports "bookmarking". I think we can learn a bit from standard.site, I'll share more soon!
At Side Project Saturday (hosted by @val.town) I demoed a bookmarking service I'm building to learn more about ATProto and user-owned data. I've a bit stuck on bookmark lexicons and what belongs in a record. Thx to @awarm.space for suggesting I write down my questions donohoe.dev/2026/bookmark-lexicons-atprot…
