In this post, we introduce Web-based Code Assurance and Transparency, a project that supports verifiable in-browser code for single-page browser applications. Along with this post, we are publishing the WEBCAT project repository; follow-up posts will provide more detailed information.

So, last year, we introduced WEBCAT (Web-Based Code Assurance and Transparency), a project designed to enable verifiable in-browser code for web applications. We wrote extensively about WEBCAT’s requirements, constraints, and goals.Today, we’re excited to announce the alpha release of WEBCAT. In particular, we invite community participation in a new, decentralized enrollment infrastructure.

Web of trust
In cryptography, a web of trust is a concept used in PGP, GnuPG, and other OpenPGP-compatible systems to establish the authenticity of the binding between a public key and its owner. Its decentralized trust model is an alternative to the centralized trust model of a public key infrastructure (PKI), which relies exclusively on a certificate authority. As with computer networks, there are many independent webs of trust, and any user can be a part of, and a link between, multiple webs.
