Bluesky is not a social network or a product or a service, it is fundamentally a promise - a promise that you can decide — with others in your social geography — where you want to be in the digital world, and you don’t have to lose all of the bits that represent you in the process.

Translating this for non-technical people: Right now Bluesky is a big warehouse party where there's one giant dance floor. But now the team has made it possible to build a room where you can throw your own party behind closed doors. And because it's your party, it can be any kind of party you want!

btw, yes I coined “Bluesky Elder” few know what it means I was referencing different groups from beta who had come to see Bluesky as a sort of safe haven, I was drawing attention to how it was becoming less safe at the time but everyone would rather think i was trying to be superior #BlueskyLore

If bluesky didn’t exist, the term Atmosphere would basically be entirely disconnected from the protocol conceptually. Bad term, yuck.
