A few days ago there was a discussion on the Social Web Incubator Community Group mailing list about fediverse handles. I sent an email to the list that I want to capture on my blog here.
Holding Hands with the "Fediverse" – ActivityPub at SFO Museum
SFO Museum has joined the “Fediverse”. We have begun to operate a series of automated “bot” accounts that are published using the ActivityPub protocols which can be subscribed to from any client, like Mastodon, that supports those standards. These are automated, low-frequency, accounts and they currently only support a limited set of interactions: Accounts can be followed or unfollowed, individual posts can be “liked”, “boosted” or replied to but those replies will not be answered (yet) or published on the SFO Museum websites. To get started we’ve created three “groups” of accounts: Things which have happened recently involving the SFO Museum Aviation Collection; Things which have happened in the terminals (new and old) and; Things from the collection which are related to flights in and out of SFO.

Working to Decentralize FedCM - AT Protocol
Bluesky Social PBC have given a grant to Emelia Smith, an Invited Expert with the FedID Working Group, to work on FedCM with the goal of making FedCM really work for the decentralized web.

Two pieces of good news for W Social: 1) I may have found the problem that has bricked their network for the past week. 2) This may very well be the LAST article I ever write about them. It's exhausting and stressful and I want to retire from this beat and go back to promoting the Fediverse. Thank you all for your support and encouragement. And to my trusted source (a Fedi friend) who found and shared with me brilliant gems: THANK YOU! It's been a real honor collaborating with you ❤️

lists.w3.orgWe collaborated with @timothychambers.net to provide a follow-up from his "Seven Deadly UX Sins for the #Fediverse" series. It's a way to reflect on how things have changed over the past six months, with clear ideas on where things are headed.

wedistribute.orgOne thing I left out of my The Everything Account piece was a whole section on Bridgy Fed. Short version: As Bridgy Fed adds more lexicons, it makes the Atmosphere the most versatile and data-owning Fediverse instance in the open social web. Perhaps in a future piece 😉

I wrote about what I've been calling "The Everything Account" If you're familiar with The Atmosphere, you already know how to get one, and this should hopefully help you explain it to others. For those of you who aren't, you'll be surprised to know you already have one; here's how you use it:

atproto.comAny big Fediverse users around? In github.com/singi-labs/sifa-workspace/iss… we are exploring how to integrate your Fediverse activity into Sifa and what that could/should look like. If you have any ideas/suggestions/opinions about this, we'd love to hear about them before building.

github.comThe conversation in this 🧵 between @anna.germnetwork.com, @sgo.to, + @bnewbold.net has me hopping in my chair with excitement Can we finally implement the full potential of the @-ness of handles vs. sites?
bryan newbold
my response to anna's original idea is that handles are already domains, and there should be cool sites there. eg, if you put dril.bsky.social in a browser bar today, you get redirected to bsky.app/profile/dril.bsky.social instead, dril.bsky.social could be a webpage, like linktree (blento is a link app)
