Letters From the Children Detained at ICE’s Dilley Facility — ProPublica
Hundreds of children are currently being held with their parents at an immigration detention center in Dilley, Texas. In letters and drawings, eight kids convey the pain of feeling trapped with no end in sight.

First-ever Home Office data reveals hundreds of child refugees wrongly treated as adults, despite expert warnings | Helen Bamber
After years of campaigning, the Home Office has for the first time published its own data confirming that hundreds of child refugees arriving in UK alone are being wrongly treated as adults, with devastating consequences. These children are routinely placed in adult accommodation, immigration detention and even adult prisons.
Opinion | Trump slashed our funding — and the only chance for thousands of kids to get a fair shot in immigration court
More and more kids, and even babies, are being forced to show up for immigration court alone without lawyers, adequate resources or protection.

Dilley Immigration Processing Center
The South Texas Family Residential Center (also called Dilley Immigration Processing Center) is an immigrant detention center in Dilley, Texas. First opened in December 2014, under Barack Obama, it has a capacity of 2,400 and is intended to detain mainly women and children from Central America.[2] United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) closed the detention center in June 2024, citing cost savings to add more beds in other facilities as the Biden administration implemented new border restrictions. It reopened the following year, in 2025.[3]
ICE Detention Trends | Vera Institute of Justice
Every year, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) subjects hundreds of thousands of people to civil immigration detention—a practice that is unjust, inhumane, and completely unnecessary. It does so under a veil of secrecy, sharing only limited, often error-prone statistics with the public. ICE’s failure to regularly release accurate, complete, and accessible data to the public enables it to operate its multi-billion-dollar detention network with impunity and little oversight.

“You Have Arrived in Hell”
The 81-page report, “‘You Have Arrived in Hell’: Torture and Other Abuses Against Venezuelans in El Salvador’s Mega Prison,” provides a comprehensive account of the treatment of these people in El Salvador. In March and April 2025, the US government sent 252 Venezuelans, including dozens of asylum seekers, to the Center for Terrorism Confinement (Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo, CECOT) mega prison in El Salvador, despite credible reports of serious human rights abuses in El Salvador’s prisons. The Venezuelans were subject to refoulement—being sent to where they would face torture or persecution—arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, torture, inhumane detention conditions and, in some cases, sexual violence.
