atproto made simple: publishing lexicons - underreacted
i find some atproto documentation extremely confusing. the section about publishing lexicons is one of those parts that makes me want to tear my hair out. it…
Introducing ATProto Science - Cosmik Labs
Announcing atproto.science! #ATproto has huge potential for supporting new ways of doing research, so we started @atproto.science to help bring together researchers, build community, and explore what's possible when science meets cutting-edge open social network protocols! 🧪 >

The Research Nexus vision for a more connected scholarly community
Crossref envisions “a rich and reusable open network of relationships connecting research organizations, people, things, and actions; a scholarly record that the global community can build on forever, for the benefit of society”. This Research Nexus expands on the importance of research objects being persistently and uniquely identified. The scholarly community has an established practice of connecting things such as citations to others’ work and it is increasingly critical to identify relationships beyond citations, bringing together published work, unpublished work, institutions, individuals, and identifying the actions that they take e.g., funding, publishing, creating, modifying, citing, and sharing. The Research Nexus brings together metadata and relationships to build a joined-up picture of the scholarly ecosystem and helps everyone identify these relationships and how they change through time. This vision is possible if all parts of the scholarly ecosystem (and beyond) work together, including various scholarly infrastructure organizations.
Decentralisation and blogging on atproto - Connected Places
The space for blogging and long-form writing on atproto is rapidly developing, and it gives some interesting insight in what decentralisation on atproto looks like
Great survey of the "scholarly interface design" frontier that also highlights the emerging role of the atproto.science and modular research ecosystems - @chive.pub @paperstarsorg.bsky.social @cosmik.network @semble.so @margin.at @discoursegraphs.bsky.social @curvenote.com and many more!

1/ Scholarly publishing spent thirty years arguing about access. It has barely started arguing about what readers do with the paper once they have it. That second argument is turning into a field, forming around how science gets read and judged. Here is the map as I see it: aris.pub/blog/scholarly-interface-desi…
One thing I continue to see missing in many atproto discussions is some of the things businesses need. Example: I see website builders but I haven't seen permission-ed logins for multiple people to access them. Ways for a publication to have mult authors & the journalists to also own their content.
Great post! There is a clear parallel to how the @atproto.science ecosystem can disrupt the extractive science publishing industry & bring on millions of researchers with a new cooperative research stack. The system is ripe for disruption - see also @edhagen.net's post in the thread linked below >

Who wants to make money in the Atmosphere? 🙋♂️
This is cool, like a mix of blog / digital garden / link log… strikes me that this kind of thing would be *really* good on atproto! Could be a single doc (like a @leaflet.pub looseleaf) & e.g. a new subpage each week, embed links or @semble.so collections, ppl can comment, re-share when updated…

I just published my weekly reflections: docs.google.com/document/d/1xRiCqpy3LMAgEsHdX… Safe as paintball. Infinite focus. Context rot. The betrayal of dumb tools becoming smart. Builders vs coders. Fossilized data. Reclaiming your data. Cooperation as transcendence. The candid aim test. Social alchemy.
