WebID - W3C Wiki
The W3C is still exploring better ways to do authentication, for example in the 2014 workshop on authentication. The WebID is a Community Group, and anyone can start a Community Group. A Community Group does not necessarily reflect the endorsement of the W3C, but we encourage grassroots communities to experiment with technology that may become a future standard.
Third Wave (Commercial) Open Source
Commercial Open Source Software (COSS) is an only-loosely-agreed-upon term for businesses built upon selling open source products. COSS has seen two significant waves pass, with a third now emerging. The head of each wave lasts approximately a decade. The tail of each wave extends into the future indefinitely. Each wave subsumes all previous waves. The first wave was characterized by shrinkwrapping and commercial support. Peaking in the mid-1990s, Red Hat was the poster-child of selling support for software written by other people.

The Smart Family Fund provides angel philanthropy funding to early-stage nonprofit organizations with the potential for positive, scalable impact that have not yet built the evidence base or sustainability model needed for larger growth funding. Eligible applicants must be U.S.-based 501(c)(3) organizations in good standing with the IRS that can clearly explain how they will measure effectiveness, quantify impact, and demonstrate how their approach is distinct from other organizations in the field. Applications are submitted through the “Send Us a Pitch” portal and require organizational information and a one-page elevator pitch aligned with the fund’s mission.
