Bluesky’s moderation woes continue as users threaten to leave the site in protest of its failure to flag slurs in account usernames. Many users — particularly Black users — are frustrated that Bluesky hasn’t apologized for allowing racial slurs to slip through its moderation tools even though they violate the platform’s community guidelines. “Our community guidelines published yesterday reflect our values for a healthy community, and we’re working on becoming better stewards every day,” Bluesky CEO Jay Graber said in a post on Saturday.

When Bluesky does open up and/or federates there will no doubt be an "eternal September"-equivalent rush of folks who won't know/won't care about the standards and practices. The good news is that blocking here is unusually powerful natively and the moderating toolset is increasingly robust.

The dunking thing is a human curse though. If this place grows to be anywhere near as big as its predecessor, I'm convinced we will see that here too. The limited audience plus that's its largely attracting Twitter refugees is what holds that at bay for now.
We should stop calling it as Bluesky "account". It's Bluesky "profile", not "account". I'm not saying people should learn about the whole #atproto business to use Bluesky, but at least they should know that their "account" is part of larger world and not tied to just Bluesky.

i think, end of the day, the real problem with Bluesky is that most of its users are here *because* they want to be in a bubble. and they can tell themselves that it’s just about not being around Nazis it supporting Musk, and that’s part of it, but also there’s a palpable desire to be ensconced.
