Features and comparisons for when I’m “search engine shopping” and not so much about enshittification etc. Currently I mostly use DuckDuckGo (for when I basically know what I’m looking for) and Kagi (for when I don’t or if I’m dissatisfied with DDG; I’m not on their unlimited plan).

Searching for 'Disregard' Breaks Google [Updated]
On Tuesday, Google held its I/O developer event, and introduced an AI-forward version of Google Search that the company described as an "intelligent search box" powered by the newest version of Gemini. It turns out Google's all-new version of search semi-breaks when you search for the word "disregard". Typing "disregard" into Google Search results in Google's AI interpreting it as a system-style instruction instead of a search query. "Understood.
Both Kagi and DuckDuckGo work fine for this, if anyone needs another reason to switch primary search engines

Starting to get conspiratorial about how hard it is to Google atproto stuff. Why does "list of public atproto relays" not take me directly to pulsar.feeds.blue? For that matter, why does "pulsar.feeds.blue" not show up on Google whatsoever? There's no robots.txt, it's not that
🧵 I tried this myself, out of curiosity. - Searched without quotation marks and verbatim mode not enabled (these should help **in theory**) - Region specificity disabled if the option is noticeable, but my VPN server is in Tokyo, according to Google, and that often gets reflected anyway
