End-to-end encrypted relays for OCapN — Spritely Institute
Creating a direct connection between any two computers (not just from client to server) over the internet is notoriously difficult. Many home networks are behind NATs which prevent new inbound connections. Sometimes these NATs are from the ISP (carrier-grade NATs) which are impossible to work around with port forwarding and/or UPnP. While hole punching techniques can break through NATs, it's far from guaranteed. Thus, we need something that works in the general case: relays.
The Heart of Spritely: Distributed Objects and Capability Security
This paper is the second in a three-part series outlining Spritely's thinking and design. The first paper, Spritely: New Foundations for Networked Communities, explains the problems which face contemporary social network design. This paper details the core technical toolbox provided by Spritely Goblins and how it supplies the necessary features to feasibly build out Spritely's broader vision. The third paper in the series, Spritely for Secure Applications and Communities, ties the first two papers together by showing how the architecture for user-facing software fulfills the vision of the first paper and can be built on top of ideas from this paper.
Homomorphically Encrypting CRDTs | jakelazaroff.com
Homomorphic encryption allows a computer to run programs on encrypted data. Learn how homomorphic encryption works through interactive examples, build a homomorphically encrypted CRDT and see whether it has promise for local-first software.

Exploring interoperability & composability for local-first software | grjte
Check out the project at https://github.com/grjte/groundmist-syncCross-posted to https://baincapitalcrypto.com/atproto-for-local-first-interoperability/ This is the third exploration connecting local-first software with the AT Protocol (atproto). Previously, I explored how atproto can enable new fu...
Building More Resilient Local-First Software with atproto | jakelazaroff.com
atproto has the potential to become a rock-solid replacement for the most fragile part of any local-first app: the sync server.

Apps as ATProto records - a proof-of-concept for serverless, user-owned applications.

Bring Atmospheric conversations to any website - Applied Meteorology
Comments on a site don't have to be cumbersome, you can build with the audience and the tools that already exist on Bluesky.
Web Tiles
Tiles are composable web docs and apps that can safely be used in arbitrary contexts and assembled from multiple sources to carry out complex user interface tasks.

Lexicon Embed
How do we embed, display, and render different Lexicons across the ATmosphere?
On fun simple social building blocks… - Scraps!
Replying to Jared's thoughts on decomposing social media experiences into building blocks (identities, data, interfaces) with some building blocks I'd like to explore in Leaflet!
Lexicon Embeds Overview
There’s an excellent discussion and thread about syntax highlighting of code blocks happening today: I think most notably there’s some alignment around using a lexicon to represent code blocks (say Tangled’s strings) and embedding those, rather than just doing syntax highlighting w/in the constraints of a bsky post. This seems like a good place to hammer a bunch of things out.
