I think one of the most valuable things that bsky can do for the atmosphere is leverage its position as the only app with a large audience and heavily promote "high quality" ATProto apps in-app. The live indicator and profile buttons are cool, but it's really limited and discovery is spontaneous.

i’m of the opinion that they’re both kinda useless in the bluesky app now AND have been a brilliant psyop (complimentary) that’s had the biggest impact on spreading the word about the atmosphere

As @ricardo.bsky.social might put it, the infrastructure behind the Bluesky app is becoming more like a product (as opposed to a project). A natural evolution would be to charge Atmosphere app developers who piggyback on it and would like to have standard commercial SLAs and technical support.

over time as business models and extraction points move up and down the stack. i think em's answer might be the most realistic one in 2026-- the entirety the ATP userbase mandatorily moderated by (or acc to the standards of) bsky that thinks of it all as "bsky apps" is on the bsky platform, i think.

If bluesky didn’t exist, the term Atmosphere would basically be entirely disconnected from the protocol conceptually. Bad term, yuck.
