In some ways, atproto, bluesky, @semble.so, @sill.social, @standard.site and so on are building new indexes for the web. I really hope atproto succeeds and goes fully mainstream. Think of the amazing search engines that can be built on such rich index data. Maybe web3 can actually happen.

atproto-aware concept search engine
a mockup of a webpage search engine that only indexes webpages that are referenced in atproto records. Surfaces related links based on social and community context.
The promise of ATproto is social media without corporate overlords | The Web Dev Podcast Series 1
Developers building apps on ATproto, the technology behind social media apps like Bluesky and Leaflet, are promising us a future where we own our content and aren’t at the whims of a tiny handful of companies. Software engineer Zeu Capua talks to host Jason Lengstorf about the promise of social media where we can actually own our own data.
ATProto ideas
If AT Protocol becomes “a meaningful layer of the web” — even if it’s only tens of millions of users — then the winning ideas probably won’t only be futuristic...
my hot take is that @semble.so is on par with traditional search engines for atproto related topics (and it's only curated by people!)

Starting to get conspiratorial about how hard it is to Google atproto stuff. Why does "list of public atproto relays" not take me directly to pulsar.feeds.blue? For that matter, why does "pulsar.feeds.blue" not show up on Google whatsoever? There's no robots.txt, it's not that
being utopian about the web is very 90s but this is like everything people dreamed the web would be. I need to read more about atproto asap overreacted.io/open-social/

A discussion I had with @pfrazee.com @bnewbold.net and @dholms.at at the conference that I wanted to dig as a community is a TLD for atproto handles. Lots of challenges, but I think I'm looking forward to a world where I'm @goto (syntactic sugar for goto.handle) on the web rather than @sgo.to
The reason I've become such a @standard.site stan is because it's forming into the first real multi-service parallel ecosystem on atproto that can survive on it's own without the need of the @bsky.app lexicons and infra
I'm building on atproto because I think that a single social network has essentially no shot of dethroning the current tech monopolies. But an open ecosystem of interoperating apps is so infinitely more interesting than legacy social that it seems almost inevitable it will win

Can everyone building on atproto please answer this question? 😇
This was a fun vibe coding project and I hope just the start of a broader movement to put our links On Protocol ™ (reading lists, projects, etc) With atproto we can completely reimagine indexing & discovery
ATProto Science
The projects list at atproto.science/projects/ is now using a @semble.so collection as data source 😎 So the page will update automatically when we add new projects to the collection, no need to edit any website html! semble.so/profile/atproto.science/colle…

newpublic.orgActually I don't think #atproto is about decentralization. It's more about indexing over distributed data. @bsky.app and @tangled.org are actually a centralized service just like general web search engines are. But just like search engines, we don't own your content and this is the important part. 🧵

👀👀 To be clear I’m very into decentralized tech and atproto is very cool, I just don’t love shoving it into everything and don’t see it as valuable in a use case like GitHub I’m down to be convinced
Is there interest in an ATProto service that given any URL, returns a unified backlink summary across the ecosystem? E.g., bookmarks on @semble.so , mentions on Bluesky or @standard.site , annotations in @margin.at, etc.
