The @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu and its president Ursula von der Leyen have recently migrated their ATproto (Bluesky) accounts to W Social. I cannot fathom why they would pick a private enterprise whose leaders didn't even have ATproto accounts 3 months ago... and who are so open to having their users' data mined to train European AI models. Emerging from being "down in the technical weeds" of #atproto is a little mashup of @semble.so & WayFinder (wayfinders.network) Semble team released "open collections" this week - here we explore the "private & permissioned data" collection, created by @bmann.ca & now with 3 other contributors
This seems like a crucial questions about what "data ownership" means for atproto. If the 3rd party doctrine applies, as Mike suggests, then I'm not sure it's possible to claim ownership unless it's self-hosted or it doesn't apply to your PDS host. Something to watch when permissioned data lands.

It would be great to get some transparency in here. @janlindblad.bsky.social: 1. will users be able to use the w social app with any #atproto account? 2. will users be able to verify themselves (to be able to post) with any atproto account or do you require users to move their accounts to your pds?
Doing some investigation into news data on atproto via @sill.social's appview. The most popular news orgs that don't have an account tied to their domain are: ABC, BBC, CBC. Broadcasting companies hate atproto, you heard it here first.
