The Bazaar of Scientific Knowledge | shishyko!
Is the current form of the scientific paper still optimal in 2025? How do we preserve, and efficiently leverage, the uncut gems of the scientific process?

QuickSort has been synthesized!I've finally added varlen uints to NeoGen, and, for the first time ever, it has invented, on its own, an O(n*log(n)) sorting algorithm!NeoGen isn't an AI. There is no model, no pre-training, no previous knowledge of sorting. In fact, the system… https://t.co/rX2kjpO6aI pic.twitter.com/RajXVrI3OB— Taelin (@VictorTaelin) April 11, 2025

The thing is, any feed or search result is "algorithmic." "Just show me the things posted by people I follow in reverse-chronological order" is an algorithm. "Just show me products that have this SKU" is an algorithm. "Alphabetical sort" is an algorithm. "Random sort" is an algorithm.

What if we didn't collapse all the knowledge from the scientific process into one paper?

Re: Re: Bluesky and Decentralization -- Dustycloud Brainstorms
A few weeks ago I wrote How decentralized is Bluesky really?, a blogpost which received far more attention than I expected on the fediverse and Bluesky both. Thankfully, the blogpost was received well generally, including by Bluesky's team. Bryan Newbold, core Bluesky engineer, wrote a thoughtful response article: Reply on Bluesky and Decentralization, which I consider worth reading.
i dislike this beyond being factually incorrect, it is also missing the core problem with Big Tech Algorithms: it is a matter about who controls attention, not the algorithm itself /1

open.spotify.comSorting data when you aren't the only source of data, don't know the full size and shape of data ahead of time, and can't control the order in which data is created presents a lot of challenges. This is what we came up with to tackle them. #atprotocol #atdev

impulsive-static.offprint.appRemarkable how over a decade ago @michaelnielsen.bsky.social pointed the way towards solving long standing issues plaguing science to this day (issues that are all the more relevant in the age of AI mediated science)

This is why @atproto.science is so relevant rn This compilation of essays indicates that scientists are most frustrated by insufficient “community tools and resources... Essential infrastructure for sharing, maintaining and building on existing work and data is also badly underdeveloped." >
